Lionel Messi viewed from Manchester United, Paris Saint-Germain

KEY POINTS

  • Lionel Messi reportedly plans to leave Barcelona in 2021
  • Manchester United and PSG are “willing to go big” on Messi
  • Messi’s exit from Camp Nou may not actually take place

Following news of Lionel Messi’s plan to leave Barcelona in 2021, giants clubs outside Spain have turned on their monitors to prepare for a potentially historic offering for the Argentine icon. A long list of suitors is a breeze, and based on the accounts, Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain could emerge as leaders to sign the six-time winner of the Ballon d’Or.

Varsky Sports, a television network located in Argentina, revealed the rumor on Friday and found that United and PSG are both “willing to make it big” for Messi with a transfer offer expected to reach around $ 122 million. A potential deal should also include a couple of other players to complete it.

Barcelona has been a fiery venue of goals, especially for United, which has also sought to attract the rising wing Ansu Fati to Old Trafford. But with the Catalans adamant in keeping the prodigy, the Red Devils could instead shift their attention to the mentor, who was annoyed by the series of questionable moves pulled out of the Spanish club.

The created image of Messi making a successful transfer to one of the two giants looks interesting at first glance, but the reality of such a move is seen as squeezing water from a stone.

“Both (United and PSG) are said to be” willing to go big “for the Barcelona star if he sensibly decides to leave Camp Nou for a new challenge elsewhere,” wrote Jack Otway of Express. “While this is the case, however, Messi moving to United or PSG seems to be impossible.”

For Man Utd, the chemistry considerations could play a significant factor regarding the improbability that Messi will be signed by the club, in particular that the Red Devils have made great strides with the calls of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who has definitely taken the control of Old Trafford since he signed a three-year contract in March 2019.

“United is only taking shape under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and any potential relocation to Old Trafford would be a risk given their difficult situation in the years since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement,” added Otway.

Speculation about Messi’s departure from Camp Nou immediately sent shock waves to the sport. Further developments will be carefully monitored, but as the projection suggests, it would take more than just a profitable offer before the Argentine actually leaves the Blaugrana.
