Ligue 1: Stéphanois Loïc Perrin ends his career

A page is turning among the Stéphanois. After 17 years in Saint-Etienne, Loïc Perrin is retiring. “It is with great emotion that I announce to you that I played my last match with my club last Friday in the final of the Coupe de France”, writes the captain of the Greens on Instagram.

The announcement comes six days after his red card in the Coupe de France, following the dangerous tackle on Kylian Mbappé. The captain has a career loyal to his club, marred by a nasty gesture, questioning the participation of the Paris striker against Atalanta in the Champions League.

By this press release, the defender does not surprise the supporters of ASSE. Loïc Perrin was to put an end to his career at the end of his contract in June 2020. But the old Stéphanois could not bring himself to leave the Greens without replaying. Due to the exceptional situation, the 34-year-old has been granted a contract extension, allowing him to participate in the Coupe de France final against PSG. “Even if I hoped for another end, I am happy and proud of my journey during these 17 seasons of professional footballer”, assures the defender in his press release.

With 470 matches played between 2003 and 2020, Loïc Perrin gave his life to his training club, which he joined at the age of 12. With the Greens, he won a League Cup title in 2013. The love story should not end there. “A page turns, but my story with ASSE is not yet over…”, he concludes. The captain should therefore play a role within ASSE, which remains to be defined.
