NBA free agency: KD among the top five Warriors purchases since 2000 originally appeared in the NBC Sports Bay Area
Four years have passed since the Warriors broke the NBA’s Twitter with the news that Kevin Durant was signing with the team as a free agent. The 2014 NBA MVP had just been eliminated from the previous postseason by Golden State while playing with Oklahoma City Thunder, in an exciting series.
Durant won two NBA final MVPs and was instrumental in bringing two titles back to the Bay Area. This signature made us think, who are the best free-agent purchases that the team has made in the history of the franchise?
We’ve kept it specific for the past 20 years, so you won’t see Rick Barry or Sarunas Marciulionis among the five selected. We also remove the signs and negotiations from the equation, as these are not the same as standard free agent contracts. So icons like Andre Iguodala and David Lee don’t make the cut for this list.
