Andy Robertson has announced that Jürgen Klopp has told his Liverpoolers to win so many trophies that they cannot remember when they were raised.
Klopp spoke to his squad last summer after reuniting as European champions after beating Tottenham Hotspur in last season’s Champions League final.
Liverpool have since won the UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup before ending their 30-year wait to win the championship.
And Robertson explained the message Klopp sent to the squad that helped them win the championship.
“We knew we were good enough to win, so we won faith from the season before that,” said the left-back.
“But this is the Premier League and Manchester City is one of the biggest and most dominant champions ever.
“To be able to finish in front of them, you have to be almost perfect.
“The motivation for us was to win the Champions League in Madrid. The gaffer said to the boys in the preseason: ‘Let’s win so many things together that we can’t remember which was won when … how was it that the first or the second trophy was the year of this year? ‘.
“I heard that and thought, yes, I like the sound of it.”
In an interview with the official Liverpool matchday program, Robertson added: “So it was not just about missing something (last year for City), but about Madrid feeling again – winning again – and making the fans happy and proud again. “
