The Spaniard’s playing time has been limited since Bruno Fernandes’ arrival in January, making only two Premier League games since the beginning of the year.

Mata started to the right of midfield during the FA Cup quarter-final victory against Norwich, but Solskjaer preferred to play alongside Mason Greenwood and Marcus Rashford during the 5-2 victory over Bournemouth.

The former Valencia man has made 20 games in total this season, but 12 of these have come in cup competitions and the developing partnership of Fernandes and Pogba could limit Mata’s involvement with respect to the remaining games.

However, Mata is under contract until June 2021 and United has the option to extend the agreement for another year, which means that Fenerbahce would be required to pay a tax.

Mata has made 252 appearances since signing for United from Chelsea in a £ 37.1 million transfer, producing 48 goals and 42 assists in six and a half seasons.
