Joshua King once again points to the Manchester United meeting

Bournemouth star Joshua King was reconnected with a transfer to Manchester United by the assistant Norwegian coach.

The powerful attacker was said to be on the way to Old Trafford in the January transfer window when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was looking for an emergency backup for Anthony Martial.

The talented Frenchman suffered an injury and United desperately needed coverage even when he had to get back in shape.

Odion Ighalo was the man who eventually entered the door but King is also believed to have come very close to a move.

If Bournemouth had accepted the Red Devils’ transfer fee, the Norwegian striker would have helped his former team get a spot in the Champions League qualifying.

According to Football365, the Norwegian assistant coach Per Joar Hansen said: “The bond with United is strong. King played as an Academy player there.

“His former reserve team manager is now the club’s head coach and has hired a new agent in Jim Solbakken, who is also Solskjaer’s agent.

“You should never say never. Ole Gunnar knows Josh well from the backup team and has contributed to his development.

“Besides, Josh knows exactly what United represents. But we won’t get bogged down, it’s just speculation. “

Manchester United are said to still be fond of an attacker and given their limited budget, it would not be a surprise to see King complete a move.

Bournemouth has been officially relegated to the Championship after a difficult season, so signing a 28-year-old should be easier and cheaper.

Ighalo’s loan was extended in January, so it raises question marks as to what his role would be, but that’s the kind of depth the team needs from United.

There are more talented options than King, but we understand that the search is for someone who can compliment the team’s attack and not take control of it.

Eighteen-year-old Mason Greenwood has set the world on fire for Manchester United this season. But how much do you know of other teenage stars who have played for the Red Devils over the years? Take our quiz below to find out.
