Joey Chestnut and Miki Sudo once again destroy the hot dog competition

Sports fans are hungrier than ever after TV contests, and the annual Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest served him in New York on Saturday.

Joey Chestnut devoured 75 Weiner and Buns in 10 minutes to win his 13th title. Around the eight-minute mark, Chestnut made history by eating his 1000th career dog.

The Coney Island tradition allowed betting this year. The corona virus crisis has also forced some changes. The audience was not allowed to watch in person. The competitors were separated by clear barriers. And the people who brought them fresh supplies were wearing masks.

“It was difficult, but I knew I was quick in the beginning,” Chestnut said on ESPN. “The dogs were cooked really well today. I missed the crowd in minute 6. I bumped into a wall. It took a bit more work to get through.”

Miki Sudo ate 48.5 hot dogs to win the women’s section and set a world record. It is her seventh title, more than any other woman ever.

Quota makers had classified her as the heavy favorite.

Regarding the lack of fans present, she said: “I wish everyone watching at home that they could be here, but thank you for supporting us from your living room.”

She also said it helps that she has a training partner in her boyfriend, bodybuilder Nick Wehry, # 8 competitor at Major League Eating. He ended the third Saturday with 39.5 dogs.

“I feel great,” said Sudo. “I’m sure the physical effects will wane a little.”
