Jesse Lingard reveals the extent of family problems affecting his Manchester United season

Jesse Lingard continued to address the personal and family issues that have affected his performance at Manchester United in the past one or two seasons.

The United midfielder fought for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team on the field and received harsh criticism. More recently, however, he has shown that a number of problems outside the field have had an impact.

He has now confirmed his mother’s depression and having to take care of his two younger siblings has made him very concerned.

Lingard ended the campaign at a high point when he scored the second goal in United’s 2-0 win over Leicester – which helped the club achieve a top 3 result in the Premier League – and admitted, “I have lost who I was as a player and person “. in a personal message to the fans.

He added: “I know that the fans were frustrated, but in all this time, my love for this club and everyone associated with it has never left me.”

Speaking to BBC presenter Maya Jama as part of the # SoundOfSupport series, Lingard opened up further when the couple encouraged people to talk about mental health problems.

Lingard said: “I was the type who liked to fill things up, kept everything to myself, but different things happened and I felt that it was the right time to speak up.

“I went through a few things with my family outside the field last season, so it was difficult for me to perform on the field.

“”I am very family oriented and my mother went through some depressive things last year … she went to London to sort it out, so in the meantime I had to take care of my little brother and sister who are 12 and 15 years old .

“I was still performing at the same time. You are just getting to the point where you say, ‘I really have to say something here.’ I talked to my family and stuff. It felt so much better.”
