Ighalo strike nominated for the “Manchester United Goal of the Month” award

The ex-Nigeria international is about to receive his second individual award since arriving in Old Trafford

Odion Ighalo’s strike against Norwich City was nominated for the Manchester United Goal of the Month award for June.

The 31-year-old striker has been in good shape since joining the Red Devils in January. It was loaned out by the Chinese Super Lig team Shanghai Shenhua.

Against Norwich, the former Nigerian international made his 12th appearance and scored a great goal to help Ole Gunnar Solskjær’s men secure a place in the FA Cup semi-finals.

The former Watford shooter opened the goal in the match when he shot home from close range and gave goalkeeper Tim Krul no chance.

The goal is the striker’s fifth goal since working with the Old Trafford team and has now been shortlisted for best goal in the month under review.

Ighalo will face Anthony Martial, Harry Maguire, Bruno Fernandes, who named him Player of the Month in March, and Mason Greenwood to receive the award for the second time.

The striker won the award in March when his brilliant goal against LASK in a Europa League game was rated the best performance of the month.

Ighalo was given a loan extension by the Old Trafford team last month after showing his striking performance to Red Devils fans.

The striker had great success in his first season in the Premier League when he scored 36 goals in 90 league games for Watford during his three-year stay at Watford.

The striker also showed consistency in front of goal for Chinese teams Changchun Yatai and Shanghai Shenhua before making a breathtaking move to Old Trafford.

Ighalo hopes to open his Red Devil Premier League account when he takes on Bournemouth on Saturday after failing to find the net closing point in his last seven league games.
