When Jeff Heath signed with the Raiders in March, the Cowboys lost a veteran leader who had apparently earned unilateral respect from Jason Garrett’s coaching staff. In no time, Mike McCarthy replaced it with a security that had previously won his trust.

HaHa Clinton-Dix, who signed a one-year contract in Dallas, will bring his own veteran presence to the Cowboys’ locker room. The 27-year-old spent four of his six seasons at Green Bay with McCarthy, who drafted him from Alabama. Last season, he signed a one-year contract in Chicago where he started 16 games. During his career, Clinton-Dix has 522 tackles and 16 interceptions.

Expectations for the Cowboys’ attack will be high and the defense will have to hold its own. In a high school with a number of intriguing young players, McCarthy made it clear that Clinton-Dix could count on safety to start without being seen as a weak link. Clinton-Dix has given up big games in his career, but he has also shown tremendous ball skills during this period, and the Cowboys have at times seemed hungry for turnover in recent seasons.

McCarthy also hired another former high school member from his Packers to lead the unit. Former Pro Bowl cornerback Al Harris will be the secondary coach of defensive coordinator Mike Nolan. With the challenges encountered due to various COVID-19 restrictions, the year is expected to be particularly difficult to implement new faces. This is certainly useful when some of these new faces in the coaching staff and even the players know the man in charge and how he leads his team.
