Formula 1 season: Hockenheim no, maybe Nürburgring

Formula 1 will not be racing at the Hockenheimring this year. This was explained by the organizer Jorn Teske on Thursday to the German Press Agency. “We have always tried to find a solution, but we have always stuck to our stipulation that we should not be left sitting at the expense,” said Teske. “We didn’t get together in the end.”

The traditional course was recently a replacement candidate for the emergency calendar of Formula 1 as a result of the corona pandemic. The premier class of motorsport had also signaled to the Hockenheimring that a European Grand Prix should be held at least in front of a few spectators. “This is not possible with the regulations in Baden-Württemberg,” said Teske.

The people in charge at the Nürburgring have confirmed discussions with the Formula 1 makers about a possible comeback. These have taken place repeatedly since the last edition in 2013. Due to the uncertain global situation, only ten races have been selected in the Formula 1 calendar so far. However, those responsible hope for 15 to 18 Grand Prix, also to be able to redeem the full TV money. The season started at the beginning of July with a delay of around four months.

In 2013 Sebastian Vettel had won the last Formula 1 race at the Nürburgring on the way to his fourth world title.
