Formula 1 is still in Germany this year. As the motorsport premier class announced, the eleventh round of the season will be held on the Nürburgring on October 11th. Formula 1 also announced further races in Portimao, Portugal (October 25) and Imola, Italy (November 1). This means that 13 runs are now scheduled.
For licensing reasons, the race on the Nürburgring will be called the Grand Prix of the Eifel and not the Grand Prix of Germany. According to the operator, the race is not a financial risk. With the racing series there is “a very fair and partnership-based construct,” said Managing Director Mirco Markfort of the German Press Agency. The Formula 1 deal “doesn’t imply red numbers for us,” he added. As a result of the financial turmoil at the Nürburgring, Formula 1 had not driven in the Eifel in the past seven years. Sebastian Vettel won the last Formula 1 race so far in the Eifel in 2013. The German Grand Prix has been stopping at Hockenheim four times since 2014.
Germany initially had no place in the racing calendar, which had been published before the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic. However, many of the planned 22 races have been canceled or postponed. The number of infections in Germany is currently lower than in many other potential host countries around the world. Therefore, there will be no Grand Prix in 2020 in the USA, Canada, Mexico and Brazil, as Formula 1 has now announced. That’s why Portimao makes her debut. Imola returns to the calendar after 14 years of abstinence as the Grand Prix of Emilia Romagna. Hockenheim had not been able to agree on a deal with the Formula 1 bosses.

The season finale is expected to rise in the middle of December in the Persian Gulf. Two races are planned in Bahrain on different track layouts, followed by the conclusion in Abu Dhabi. Races in Asia are also possible, for example in Vietnam or Malaysia. However, all of these runs have not yet been confirmed. Formula 1 plans to continue with 15 to 18 races, the full calendar should be published “in the coming weeks”.
