Football: Mediapro will launch Téléfoot on August 17

The date is finally known. The Sino-Spanish group Mediapro, holder of the majority of the TV rights to Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 for the period 2020-2024, will launch its Téléfoot channel on August 17, four days before resumption of the French first division on August 21. , announced its president Jaumes Roures Tuesday noon.

“We are where we need to be,” said the Spanish businessman at a press conference. The first Ligue 1 match broadcast by Téléfoot will therefore be the meeting between OM and Saint-Etienne, on Friday August 21 at 7 p.m. at the Vélodrome.

For now, the channel will only be distributed on SFR boxes. Mediapro and Altice, owner of the telecommunications group, announced a distribution agreement on Monday. It also allows Téléfoot to co-broadcast, with RMC Sport, for one season, the Champions League and the Europa League. The subscription is set at 25.90 euros per month with a one-year commitment (29.90 without).

Subscribers reimbursed in case of stopping football

Negotiations are underway with other distributors such as Orange, Bouygues Télécom, Free, but they are at a standstill with Canal Plus. “We hope that the agreement with SFR will accelerate the announcement of other agreements,” said Jaume Roures.

A streaming service will also be offered by Téléfoot, which has launched a site where interested Internet users can already register and will be contacted again. An offer intended for bars is also being finalized.

In addition, Mediapro has announced that a new stop in competitions linked to health constraints will be taken into account in the price of future subscriptions. “If the football stops, our subscribers stop paying, promises Jaume Roures. No one will pay for things that we will not distribute. “
