FIFA President Gianni Infantino Stuck Criminal Case

Zurich

The position of FIFA President is indeed a hot seat. This time it was Gianni Infantino’s turn to stumble over criminal matters. Why?

It was the Swiss court special prosecutor Stefan Keller who opened the case involving Infantino. Infantino was investigated for allegedly holding a special meeting with Swiss attorney general Michael Lauber in June 2017.

According to the report Sky Sports, Lauber was declared to have committed several violations while carrying out his duties and lied to investigators when his office examined FIFA.

Lauber allegedly deliberately made a false statement about his secret meeting with Infantino in February 2017. The meeting was revealed thanks to the secret Football Leaks documents that were leaked to the public in November 2018.

It is not yet known exactly what was actually discussed at the meeting, although this is related to allegations of corruption cases addressed to Infantino since taking office as FIFA President in February 2016.

Well, the unique thing is that Lauber immediately stated his resignation last week, a few minutes before the federal court issued the accusation. FIFA immediately issued a rebuttal regarding this matter and will even follow the entire investigation process to completion.

Gianni Infantino is even ready to work with investigators so that this case can be resolved. Especially according to Infantino, his meeting with the Swiss Attorney General did not violate the rules at all.

“Meeting with the Swiss attorney general was permitted and one hundred percent legal,” Infantino said on ESPN.

“Nothing has been violated at all. In fact this is one part of my job as President of FIFA,” he continued.

Although denied, this case certainly raises a bad precedent for Gianni Infantino who might be able to resign from his position. Moreover Infantino also rose as FIFA president replaces Sepp Blatter who was caught in bribery and corruption cases while leading FIFA.
