Ferran Torres: Man City could sign Valencia winger for the first time in summer

Ferran Torres has played five games for the U21 in Spain

Manchester City could sign Valencia winger Ferran Torres to replace Leroy Sane for the first time this summer.

Valencia wants £ 40m for Torres, who has a one-year contract with the La Liga club, and BBC Sport knows the 20-year-old Spanish international wants a move to Etihad Stadium.

The German striker Sane left City for the Bundesliga giant Bayern Munich.

City, who finished second in the Premier League, is expected to target central defenders again this summer.

26-year-old England center-back John Stones and 32-year-old Argentine defender Nicolas Otamendi fell behind 19-year-old Eric Garcia as Aymeric Laporte’s first choice partner after the Corona virus was shut down.

Spanish Under-21 international Garcia launched six of City’s ten Premier League games in June after restarting the season. Stones, who missed the first two games with an ankle injury, started only two and Otamendi three.

Football director Txiki Begiristain said he expects a “strange” transfer window because the campaign won’t end until late August. The new one starts three weeks later on September 12th.

“We have to be ready,” he told City’s official website. “We have less time than ever before, so people have to move forward quickly. We still have the Champions League, so we have to wait to move forward.”

Begiristain also said City may be playing a friendly behind closed doors this weekend to prepare for the Champions League second leg tie against Real Madrid on August 7th.

City won the first leg 2-1 in Madrid before the season was interrupted in March.
