Fernandes and Rashford kick off – Manchester United have planned training against Southampton

Manchester United will secure third place in the Premier League if they win all the remaining matches after Chelsea’s defeat against Sheffield United on Saturday.

Confidence is sky high as United have come across 17 games in all competitions and have been at their peak against Aston Villa last week.

The Reds will hopefully end their sad home record against the Saints by winning only two of their last six fights at Old Trafford.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has scored an unchanged team for the past four games and has hinted that the team could remain the same for the fifth consecutive game.

He said: “There are so many things you need to consider when running a team. We have players here who fight a bit, but also those who are in the rhythm.” It would be the first time since 1993 that United will nominate an XI unchanged in five consecutive league games if it decides to stick to the winning formula.

Therefore, David de Gea will keep his place among the sticks. Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Victor Lindelof, Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw will do the back. Lindelof, in particular, will hope for a strong performance to prove his worth as Maguire’s central defender partner after both Rio Ferdinand and Roy Keane have agreed on the need for a new defender.

Paul Pogba scored his first goal of the season during the win against Villa and excelled alongside Nemanja Matic in a double pivot, allowing Bruno Fernandes the license to wander in the third final and to separate the teams.

Fernandes defended Marcus Rashford who has yet to score from the game opened since the Premier League restart. As Raheem Sterling has shown in Manchester City, one goal may be needed to open the doors and Rashford will be desperate to find the back of the net.

He should associate Anthony Martial at the top, another player who will be eager to get the score after being visibly frustrated following a substitution against the villains. Mason Greenwood has once again scored and should keep Daniel James on the bench.

Manchester United has planned training against Southampton: De Gea; Wan-Bissaka, Lindelof, Maguire, Shaw; Matic, Pogba, Fernandes; Rashford, Greenwood, Martial.
