FedEx St. Jude Invitational reverses the course, opts for no fans

The plan to have fans at the Memphis Golf World Cup event has been canceled.

Officials announced Thursday that the FedEx St. Jude Invitational at TPC Southwind will not have spectators because of what they call “an abundance of caution”.

The tournament is expected to run from 30 July to 2 August.

Tournament officials spoke at length with the PGA Tour and with local and state health officials. Executive director Darrell Smith claims to have a limited spectator safety plan, but ultimately felt it was better to host without fans. Ticket purchases will be automatically refunded.

The PGA Tour and Memorial announced on Monday a reversal of their plan for a limited number of spectators next week in Dublin, Ohio, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This means that every PGA Tour event at least until July will take place without fans since the game resumed on June 11 in Texas.
