The photo distributed on social media apparently shows the Welsh man during fitness training in Cardiff. It has already led to violent protests by Schalke fans on social networks. However, it is unclear when the picture was taken in the BVB jersey. Matondo has been playing for Schalke since January 2019.
In any case, Schneider demanded that Matondo apologize. In addition, he was “clearly told that he had to show the right reaction to his misconduct on and off the pitch”.
Matondo sees BVB star as a role model
Under the latest photo on Matondo’s Instagram account, some fans let their anger run free. A few excerpts: “Back to Manchester with you you bird” or “Such a person doesn’t deserve a Schalke jersey”.
Before moving to Gelsenkirchen – for around ten million euros – Matondo played in the youth of Manchester City, together with Sancho. Both ventured into Germany as teenagers.
Matondo had emphasized several times in the past that he saw Sancho as a role model and dreamed of going in the Bundesliga in a similar way to the 20-year-old BVB international.
Despite his enormous speed, Matondo is still waiting for his breakthrough in the Bundesliga. Since moving from Manchester, he has played 29 Bundesliga games for Schalke; he scored two hits. Matondo is now more than ever responsible for the fans and those responsible.
