FC Schalke 04 founds department for female soccer players

Bundesliga soccer team Schalke 04 will start for the first time in the low season with teams for female soccer players. In the coming months, “a holistic structure in the field of women’s and girls’ soccer should be built up,” said the club. Bodo Menze will be chaired by the new department.

In the future, a women’s team will compete in district league B, another U17 team also in district league. In addition, another youth team is to be added every year.

“With the establishment of a women’s and girls’ soccer department, we want to expand our range of grassroots sports,” said Jochen Schneider, the sports director at Schalke. “Our focus will clearly be on amateur sports – in the medium and long term we want to develop a new, ideal youth area that offers a sporting home on Schalke for amateur footballers of all ages.”

Other Bundesliga clubs go on

Schalke is taking a different path than other first division men’s teams. It was announced on Tuesday that Turbine and men’s Bundesliga club Hertha BSC are entering into a three-year cooperation “on a sporting and content level” and are working together on various brand and communication measures.

Turbine’s long-time rival, the 1st FFC Frankfurt, has chosen another path and will compete under the Frankfurt Eintracht umbrella from next season. So the Frankfurt women want to connect to the rushed clubs VfL Wolfsburg and FC Bayern Munich. Borussia Dortmund also wants to develop a concept for a women’s department.

There is also an international movement in women’s football: for example, Real Madrid will also send a women’s team to the top Spanish football league on the field from the coming season.
