Ex-Eagles linebacker has high hopes for Davion Taylor

Who better to ask questions about the linebacker game than a former player who started more than 200 games in this position?

In this case, that player is a former first round selection and two-time Pro Bowler Takeo Spikes, who also had a brief stint with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2007. Spikes has its own show (The Behind the Mask podcast on the Bleav Podcast Network), then we logged in to discuss soccer on Cats by the fireside # 17.

When asked about the Eagles linebacker squad, Spikes said he had high hopes for the rookie Davion Taylor. Spikes was particularly impressed with a game played by Taylor when Colorado lost 38-3 to Oregon in the 3rd quarter …

“I remember watching the Oregon game… This cat, he was on the line of scrimmage on the other side of the field and the running back broke on the other side. And you clearly thought he was going to score. You saw Davion devour it completely, cut the grass, mow it down. And I’m like ‘if you can flaunt that kind of effort like that when most people would watch the game and say they’re already gone’ …

And what I like about him is that he’s an athletic monster, he can run … he’s the prototypical guy. Are there things he can clean up? Absolutely. But when I look at his game and his ability when he has his decision he can make a few games.

So I can’t wait to see how it evolves … ”- Takeo Spikes

The ball carrier he was chasing was not left out either. CJ Verdell is known as an explosive player who is fourth among returning FBS players with a total of 2,238 career rushing yards over the past two seasons. Verdell was unable to retire due to athleticism and track history which brought Taylor on Bruce Feldman’s famous “monster list”

“… he ran in the 100 and 200 yards and was part of the 4 × 100 relay team. The 6-3, 220 pounder was CU’s fastest sprinter and he finished sixth in the 100m at the Pac-12 championships. His top 100 this year was 10.51 in the Pac-12 prelims. – Bruce feldman, The Athletic

Taylor has a long way to go to learn the game due to his inexperience in the box as he played the ‘star’ position for Colorado all last year, so he may need to be relaxed in. rotation in difficult passing situations. . If he can figure out running races as early as possible, it will be a godsend for his potential playing time. The athleticism is definitely there, it’s just a matter of getting it trained in every detail of the game. That process could take a few years, but there is an attractive toolbox to work with in the meantime. At the very least, Taylor should start his career as a special teams demon.
