Dwight Yorke urged Manchester United to sign Kalidou Koulibaly and says the Napoli defender would be “perfect” for his former club.

Senegalese captain Koulibaly is considered one of the best defenders of world football and is valued at £ 90 million by the Italian club Napoli.

The Red Devils have been linked with a move for Koulibaly in the past 18 months and Yorke believes he would be the “perfect” long-term partner for Captain Harry Maguire.

Yorke said at Stadium Astro: ‘Without a doubt I think that’s what everyone is looking for and if Manchester United will make some big purchases as they always do, surely [sign him], if we can afford it, then why not?

‘I think it’s ideal to enter the midfield alongside Maguire, it would be fantastic to have him there and suddenly we will look like a suitable team, with the likes of Pogba and Bruno and one of the midfielders in possession and the front three forward, like I have already said.

“We become a team that suddenly everyone will fear.”

Yorke, who has won three titles in the Premier League and the Champions League with Manchester United, added: ‘The Italian championship was a great time for me, it is very difficult.

‘But surely with everyone after him, what he has done in the Italian league so far is a name that everyone has after.

‘If he’s someone everyone’s looking for, then why should United not chase him?

‘And this sends a clear message that we are difficult to beat and certainly with the quality we have at the moment, it is a piece of cake for me if I were united at this stage.

‘If I was Ole or in Ole’s position, I would be convincing to take him because I know how important it is [it is] to have another half of his quality alongside Maguire. “

Manchester United scored a huge 3-0 victory over Brighton on Tuesday evening and is now only two points behind Chelsea in fourth after their defeat against West Ham.

Solskjaer’s team faces Bournemouth relegation fighters this weekend.
