A court case between Johannes Dürr and the Austrian Ski Association has been running in Innsbruck since Wednesday, in which the former cross-country skier is to be silenced once and for all. The question also haunts the room: have suspected cases of doping been covered up among alpine skiers in the past?

Basically in Innsbruck it is about: Dürr, who had been convicted of doping several times, should no longer be allowed to publicly protest against the ÖSV. The ex-cross-country skier had done this regularly in the past. He was sued for this by the ÖSV. In the short term, Dürr was in fact no longer allowed to comment before further judicial authorities overturned the judgment. Because ÖSV boss Peter Schröcksnadel does not want to put up with this, a final decision should now be made.

Ex-employee burdened Schröcksnadel

As the ARD sports show team reports, other witnesses were interrogated in the course of the trial. Including Martin Cappy, who worked for ÖSV skiers for one year in 2006. At that time, Cappy claims to have found documents in the garbage that revealed higher values for alpine skiers. An athlete in particular was far above the permitted doping limit values. Cappy went to Schröcksnadel with it, but he immediately left the room and didn’t want to listen to the story.

Schröcksnadel disputes the representations of Cappy and claims that he forwarded the matter to Alpine boss Hans Pum. There had never been an answer to what the story had done for Schröcksnadel. The ÖSV President had emphasized several times in the past that doping was useless in skiing.

What remains open is the question of whether there is a spark of truth in Johannes Dürr’s statements. The former professional athlete was sued because he says that the ÖSV does not look closely at its athletes – according to the motto: The main thing is success!
