Accused on Twitter of sexual harassment by a former employee of the New York City club, which triggered an investigation by the club, David Villa denies the facts.
“I thought I got the chance of my life with this internship. What I got was that David Villa touched me every day and that my bosses thought it was a joke, ”the young woman tweeted.
The harassment I went through at NYCFC was so bad that now the idea of professional sports terrifies me. Staying in the field of athletics terrifies me. I’m changing my entire career because the shit they did to me ruined my dreams.

Villa responded in a lengthy statement: “I have learned in recent days of some unfounded and ambiguous accusations from a Twitter user who was working as an intern in New York, a club I left in December 2018. The accusations have spread on networks and in the media. (…) I want to firmly deny the accusations made against me via Twitter. These accusations are absolutely false. (…) I never heard of these accusations from the Club or any other source before their publication last weekend. Of course, I will fully cooperate with NYC FC as these accusations are also directed against the club. (…) Harassment is a major problem for society. It is very unfortunate for those who have been the victim of harassment that others use it to make false accusations. As our legal team strives to clear up these false accusations, I urge any person or media to respect my right to the presumption of innocence. “
World champion and double European champion with Spain, Villa played in Valencia, Barcelona, and Atletico before joining New York for a year and a half, then Melbourne, and Vissel Kobe before retiring at the beginning of the year.
