Corey Levin caught the attention of bears as an inner line contender

The fact that the Bears did everything they could last year to bring Corey Levin to Chicago and then kept him speaks volumes about his ability as an offensive lineman.

Now it’s up to Levin to show that this ability should keep him on the team.

Last season, the Bears had both James Daniels and Cody Whitehair capable of center, center / guard Ted Larsen as a replacement and center of rookie training team Sam Mustipher.

They’ve always seen a potential guard / center available to Corey Levin in the Denver Broncos’ training team and recruited him to their regular list.

Levin is built more like a center than a guardian at 6 feet 4 inches, 307 pounds. He also prefers to play the center rather than the guard, but can do both.

Written in the sixth round in 2017 in Tennessee-Chattanooga, Levin has already seen a small amount of NFL action. He has played in every game for the Tennessee Titans in 2018, either as a substitute for the guard or in the middle, or in special teams.

Levin has an NFL start, a 20-19 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers. He also had considerable playing time to relieve injured players in a 26-22 win over the New York Jets and a 21-0 loss to the Baltimore Ravens that season. His game stood out in the victory over the Jets and he played center in this game.

Levin did not stick with the Titans in 2019 for their run to the AFC championship game. It was cut and signed with the Denver Broncos, who then cut it and put it on the training team in September. While with Denver, he was able to work with one of the league’s best known offensive line coaches, Mike Munchak.

The Bears kicked him out of the Denver training team at the end of November and he was inactive for three weeks, then was added to the active match day list but did not play against the Minnesota Vikings in the regular season final.

Built more like a center than a caretaker, Levin would be a possible insurance policy behind Daniels and Whitehair, provided he can beat Notre Dame graduate Sam Mustipher for a place.

His experience could provide an advantage in an on-site battle against some of the list’s inexperienced guards like Arlington Hambright and Alex Bars.

Levin still has the eligibility of the training team, so he may end up being cut and brought back.
