Coach Says Mitch Trubisky Throwing Shoulder Has Structural Problems

Mitch Trubisky has put in a ton of work this offseason to prepare for his next battle with Nick Foles. This is not limited to his throwing sessions with his teammates or working at the cinema. He also tries to take better care of himself. Especially after undergoing surgery to repair a torn labrum in his left shoulder.

He notably worked with Spear Training Center. They specialize in personal training regimes using a scientific approach. Recently on their Instagram, they posted a video update on one of their clients, Trubisky. They claim that his rehabilitation went splendidly. The shoulder is healthy, strong and mobile.

However, they also delivered a fascinating nugget that was easy to miss. Halfway through their quote, they said that upon entering the program, they had made an interesting discovery. This throwing shoulder from Trubisky suffered from a structural imbalance.

This discovery is actually interesting for Mitch Trubisky

Now, shoulder imbalance is not something people tend to hear about. This is because it is more of a common thing with baseball pitchers. However, quarters can also suffer. An imbalance often occurs when a passerby has greater muscle density at the front of the shoulder than at the back. This may seem correct, but it is not. Drew Brees suffered from a similar problem early in his NFL career.

Finally, during the offseason of 2004, he met a man by the name of Tom House who identified the problem. Here is an extract on this subject from the book “The QB: The Making of Modern Quarterbacks” by Bruce Feldman.

Brees began to apply new techniques to strengthen and balance his shoulder. As a result, he threw 27 touchdowns in just seven interceptions this season, his first Pro Bowl campaign. The rest is history.

If Trubisky does have a similar problem, could solving it lead to more consistency in his throwing power and accuracy? It sounds like the idea that Spear has in mind.
