Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce named NFL Top 100

For the fifth year in a row, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce has been named an NFL Top 100. On Wednesday evening, Kelce became the Chiefs’ fifth player to be announced as part of the “Top 100 Players of 2020” program broadcast by NFL Network. Kelce came in 18th on the list – his best ranking to date. It was ranked 21st in 2019, 24th in 2018, 26th in 2017 and 91st in 2016.

Kelce, 30, played his varsity ball at the University of Cincinatti before the Chiefs chose him in the third round (63rd overall) of the 2013 NFL Draft. After losing most of his rookie season with an injury to the knee, in 2014, he led the Chiefs in receiving yards with 862 of 67 receptions. With the exception of the 2016 season, he’s led the team in receptions ever since, gaining over 1,000 yards in each of the past four years – becoming the fifth tight end to accomplish the feat, and the only one to do it four consecutive seasons.

Along the way, he’s been drafted for five Pro Bowls and twice been named to the All-Pro First Team – most recently in 2018, when he gained 1,336 yards (and scored 10 touchdowns) on 103 catches. .

During his seven-year career with the Chiefs, Kelce amassed 6,465 yards (and scored 37 touchdowns) on 507 receptions. But perhaps more importantly, Kelce grew up as a person – and a leader. During his first five seasons, Kelce was certainly a productive player, but was often disciplined for explosions on the pitch.

But before the start of the 2018 season, Kelce recognized that he could become a leader in the locker room. “If that’s what we need from me, yes, definitely,” he said at the time. “That’s all the team needs from me and that’s my kind of focus.”

Kelce’s new attitude has been a big part of the team’s success this season, in which new starting quarterback Patrick Mahome was named the NFL MVP, the team arrived in a game or two. or in the Super Bowl – and a year later led to the team. first championship in 50 years.
