Chiefs sign free agent security Tedric Thompson

According to a report from a friend of the Terez Paylor site of Yahoo! Sports, Kansas City Chiefs signed free agent safety Tedric Thompson.

Thompson – the younger brother of former NFL safety Cedric Thompson, who played for the Miami Dolphins, New England Patriots, Minnesota Vikings and Cincinnatti Bengals – traveled to the University of Colorado, where the Seattle Seahawks selected him in the fourth round (111th overall) in 2017. He is six feet tall and weighs 204 pounds, running a 4.6-40 yard dash at the 2017 NFL Combine.

In three seasons, Thompson played 29 games for Seattle – starting 16 of them – recording 80 tackles (52 solo), five defenses, three interceptions and one forced fumble. Two of the picks came last season, in which Thompson only started six games before sustaining a shoulder injury that put him in the injured reserve for the rest of the year.

The Seahawks released Thompson in March.

Thompson’s signing brings the number of players on the Chiefs roster to 87. The team can bring up to 90 on their active roster until August 16, when the roster is to be reduced to 80 players. Until then, the team will have to perform split practices; no more than 80 players can be in the facility at a time.
