There is just over a week left before Chelsea’s 2019/20 campaign officially ends, but the club has already moved on to secure two team additions that have generated a lot of excitement among the fans.
Exciting striker Hakim Ziyech moved to Ajax in Stamford Bridge while RB Leipzig forward and German Timo Werner also join.
The club observed a transfer ban imposed by FIFA last summer and, after making no additions in January, was aware that the team needed to be renewed in the next transfer window and wasted no time in starting.
There is still an expectation around Stamford Bridge that many more players will arrive this summer which will provide an instant update not only to the team, but to the first team.
Having already raided the Bundesliga for Werner this year, there are other German stars who have been strongly linked to a move to West London.

Bayer Leverkusen ace Kai Havertz is one of the most sought after players in the high end of European football and Chelsea has often been cited as an interested suitor.
These are rumors that are arousing great enthusiasm for Blues fans, with the German international rapidly establishing itself as one of the Bundesliga’s brightest stars and, at just 21 years of age, someone with a great future ahead of them.
However, there is also some concern among Chelsea fans – most of which stem from the pressing need to address the club’s multitude of defensive concerns before adding even more attentive talent to their ranks.
But should there also be concern that Havertz might not be suitable for Chelsea’s first team? The German has established himself as the protagonist in Leverkusen, the main man of the team. However, a move to Stamford Bridge means that while it would undoubtedly require significant status, it would compete with many other stars and in an attack system that could attempt to insert three new signatures into the starting lineup.
Pedro Rodriguez and Willian will both be leaving Stamford Bridge this summer, but there is still a large number of offensive talents; especially Christian Pulisic, who has distinguished himself in his recent run since restarting the Premier League last month. If we assume that Pulisic and Ziyech would be beginners from all over the world, that would mean that Werner – who is skilled at playing any position through an attacking trident – would be the central attacker.
Havertz is more comfortable in an advanced midfield role, which would adapt to Chelsea’s playing style and represent an investment in a neglected area in recent years. Unless Frank Lampard passes from his favorite 4-3-3 formation, this would leave the team off balance – with four starting players committed almost exclusively to attack.
The most similar player in this model is Mason Mount, who has excellently performed in his debut season on the team of the first team, but who is more industrious and less creative than Havertz. There is no doubt that the German is a more talented player, but his arrival would not only limit the playing time for a young graduate in a vital phase of his career, but also risks leaving Chelsea short of defense.
Of course, tactical flexibility and systems change should be appreciated and will be needed over the course of a season, but there is no doubt that this is an element of risk that would be a problem created due to an extreme financial outlay – he Bayer declared valorising their star with a whopping £ 90 million.
There are clearly more pressing problems that Chelsea face in the transfer market – in particular the signing of at least one new goalkeeper, a new left back and another central defender – and while politics can often be dictated by the players who become available, such as could be the In the case of Havertz, this has already seen the club channeling large sums of money into the signing of Ziyech and Werner respectively.

While these purchases will undoubtedly increase the blues’ potential to win trophies, they will also limit the opportunities for Callum Hudson-Odoi and Tammy Abraham, with the arrival of Havertz hitting the Mount and, moreover, Ruben Loftus-Cheek.
Chelsea’s offensive balance has been good this season with multiple promising combinations and connecting play between a group of talented players. This will increase even more with the two guaranteed summer arrivals, but this must be compensated by the realism of what balance must be achieved for a functioning team.
Havertz’s signature would undoubtedly increase Chelsea’s firepower and attack potential, but it also risks stopping the development of promising players in the club and compensating for the stability in the initial formation.
