This is how the preparation for the Champions League is going
After winning the championship and the DFB Cup, FC Bayern Munich is going on vacation for the first time. FCB coach Hansi Flick explains the schedule before the CL final tournament.
After the Bundesliga season is before the Champions League. The quarter-finals of the premier class will be drawn in Nyon on Friday. Because of the corona pandemic, everything is different this year than usual.

So far, four of the eight quarter-finalists have been determined: RB Leipzig, Atalanta Bergamo, Atletico Madrid and Paris St. Germain have already qualified for the round of the last eight. The other four teams still have to be determined in the second round of the second leg. Bayern have the best cards to qualify after 3-0 in the first leg against Chelsea. The game seems to be only a matter of form.
The remaining three teams will be determined in Manchester City – Real Madrid (first leg 2-1), Juventus Turin – Olympique Lyon (0-1) and FC Barcelona – SSC Napoli (1-1).
Champions League? “Want to play in Manchester”
It is not yet clear where the second leg of the second leg of the Champions League will be played between Manchester City and Real Madrid. Pep Guardiola cannot influence that either.
The round of 16 second legs are to be played on August 7th and 8th. It is still unclear whether they will be played in a neutral place or in the stadiums of the teams with home rights.
How’s the draw going?
On Friday not only the quarter-finals will be determined. There will be three draws at UEFA headquarters in Nyon – one for the quarter-finals, one for the semi-finals and one in which the home team will be decided in the final. Accordingly, the way to the title is mapped out for the team.
There is no seed list at the tournament and the country protection is removed. All teams end up in one pot, which means that games can also occur between teams from the same league. For example, the duel between Bavaria and Leipzig is possible.
What mode is played in?
The tournament in Lisbon is scheduled to start on August 12, and the Champions League winner should be known in less than two weeks. The quarter-finals are scheduled from August 12th to 15th, the two semi-finals on August 18th and 19th. The finale is scheduled to rise on Sunday, August 23. Contrary to what is usually the case, there is no second leg in the quarter and semi-finals.
CL title? “Have huge chance”
The rest of the season in the Champions League will be held in a tournament format. Leipzig coach Julian Nagelsmann sees this as a great opportunity to win the title.
The winners are determined in a game. If there is a tie after 90 minutes, there will be an extra time. If no winner has been found, the penalty shoot-out will occur.
What does the technical home law mean?
Since only Lisbon is played in front of empty ranks, there is no home advantage for any of the teams. Uefa still draws a home team. Whoever has the technical home right has the right to choose a jersey and a cabin.
After the Champions League draw, the further schedule of the current Europa League season will also be determined. The knockout games are played in Duisburg, Düsseldorf and Gelsenkirchen, the final takes place in Cologne. The quarterfinals will take place on 10./11. August, the semi-finals on 16./17. August and the final on August 21st.
