Sion is back … in “Short Bursts”

Thursday 30 July, 3:08 pm PT

Justin Verrier: Zion is mostly back. The wunderkind will appear in the NBA reopening matchup between Pelicans and Jazz, but will only play in “short bursts”, according to ESPN’s Malika Andrews. The approach will be similar to Williamson’s debut in January, according to ESPN’s Andrew Lopez. In that game, Zion played the first minutes of each quarter and only 18 minutes in total. He was slow to start but came alive in the fourth, climbing 17 points in just three minutes and almost confirming his bona fide superstar.

Williamson was away from the pelicans, and off the NBA bubble / campus / whatever in Orlando, for eight days to strive for a family emergency. He quarantined Orlando for four days and participated in two tests this week. Williamson told reporters this week that he did “some body workouts” while he was away from the bubble, “just to keep my muscles moving.” But she understood the need to be cautious: “I think my team and I will look at what’s best for me, my future and being safe,” said Williamson. “If you know me, I want a circle. This is how I am; I will never change. I want to go in a circle, simple. “

Sion has only played 19 games this season due to injuries, but has already proven he is one of the most electrifying players in the NBA when he plays: he averages 23.6 points, 6.8 rebounds and 2.2 assists in 29 , 7 minutes per game. Pelicans open the Grizzlies’ bubbleball 3.5 games for the eighth in the West, with Trail Blazers between them. But even if the Pels and the NBA hope that Zion and Co. make their way into the playoffs, or at least in the play-in part, the franchise is still keeping the big picture in mind.
