Brandon McManus eager to break longest NFL goals record

Soccer balls fly farther in Denver than anywhere else in the NFL because the thin air aloft offers less resistance. Unsurprisingly, the longest goal in NFL history, 64 yards, was kicked in Denver by Matt Prater.

Now Broncos kicker Brandon McManus hopes to break that record, and Denver fans have reason to hope he does too: McManus has a deal with Bud Light that will ensure that all 21-year-olds over Denver will receive a free beer if he kicks a basket of 65 yards or more.

“I have a big leg, and I always wanted my name to be engraved in history,” McManus told NFL Network, via Denver Post. “I know I can do this, my teammates know I can do this. At training camp, with live jets, I did it 73 meters away. “

McManus thought he was on the verge of breaking the record last season when coach Vic Fangio sent him in for a 65-yard scoring attempt. But Fangio changed his mind and removed the goalkeeper from the field before letting McManus try to break Prater’s record.

“Same [Prater] texted me after the game and said, “I can’t believe they didn’t let you,” said McManus. “I would really like the opportunity to do so.”
