Because Manchester United didn’t sign Jude Bellingham

Jude Bellingham’s desire to play football for the first team and an encouraging promise from Borussia Dortmund were the main reasons why he didn’t move to Manchester United.

Dortmund have finally announced a move for the exciting seventeen-year-old midfielder on Monday morning with an announcement video “Hey Jude”, playing on the famous Beatles track.

Bellingham, who enjoyed a revolutionary campaign with Birmingham City in the championship, will now link up with BVB after a £ 20 million fee has been agreed in the region. This is followed by the impressive Norwegian feeling Erling Haaland in sealing a move to the German giants after United had registered a serious interest.

MEN Sport understands that Chelsea was also in the running for Bellingham, but the teenager – who is represented by his father – wanted to make sure he would have a regular playing time, which Premier League teams couldn’t guarantee.

United gave Bellingham and his family a tour of their Carrington training ground in early March before the blockade in an attempt to win the game for his signing.

But the recent success of British youth in the Bundesliga, as United Jadon Sancho’s target and others like Reiss Nelson and Ademola Lookman, seems to have played an important role in Bellingham’s thinking.

He made 40 league appearances for Birmingham in the 2019/20 season, scoring four goals and impressing in his senior debut campaign and developed a good relationship with former boss Pep Clotet, who also left St Andrews.

United are still interested in securing signatures in midfield this summer, with the relocation window officially opening within a week on July 27th. But their main goal remains the Sancho wing of Dortmund, with United remaining confident of being able to make a deal for the twenty year old.

Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish also remains on United’s radar.
