Ball: The Markina-Xemein Jai Alai World Tour will start this weekend

The Jai Alai World Tour basket-tip circuit will not miss the annual event. Although the situation caused by Covid 19 has led to a change in format and calendar, the basket-tip circuit will start this Friday in Markina-Xemein. It will run until December, bringing together fabulous ingredients: a circuit with at least seven tournaments and a line-up of the best basketball players in the world.

It is currently confirmed that the following tests will be carried out on the circuit: the Markina-Xemein Masters, the Lekeitio Masters, the Hondarribia Grand Slam, the Gernika Grand Slam, the Donostia-San Sebastián Grand Slam, the Barcelona Open and the Berriatu Individual. The organizers are also working to confirm other tournaments, including the Mutriku Open and the Zumaia Masters.

The Jai Alai circuit is organized by the World Pelota Council with the support of the Basque Government. The presentation at the Ola Martin Berasategui restaurant in Bilbao was attended by the Minister of Culture and Language Policy, Bingen Zupiria, the President of the World Pelota Council, Fernando Azkarate, and the head of Jai Alive, Mikel Egiguren.

Specific conditions

Each tournament in this circuit will have its own Safety Protocol, based on the recommendations of the Department of Health of the Basque Government and agreed between the organizations involved in the organization. It will specify the conditions for the event: fan entrances and exits, capacity, use of toilets, etc. At the moment, the first matches of the circuit, which will take place this month, will be held with a content of 60%, and the spectators will have to carry a kiss.

Forced by current conditions, there are still some tournaments to be tied at this time. In any case, the presentation provided a list of the first seven tests that have already been confirmed, as well as the dates.

The Master of Markina will be held on July 10, 16 and 19; Lekeitio Master: September 4 and 6; Hondarribia Grand Slam: September 18 and 25, and October 2, 9 and 16; Gernika Grand Slam: October 10, 17, 24, 26 and 31; The Masters in San Sebastián and the Barcelona Open will take place in November; and Berriatua Individual, in December.

Seven tournaments

The President of the World Pelota Council, Fernando Azkarate, pointed out that, despite the difficulties, they have completed a high-level circuit. “We have confirmed seven tournaments at the moment, and to these will probably be added other tests, all of which are common on the circuit. At the same time, we must emphasize that we will have the best basketball players in the world. Imanol López, Goikoetxea, Aritz Erkiaga, Diego Beaskoetxea, Xabier Barandika, Lekerika, Olharan and Zulaika, among others, have already confirmed that they will come. We will have a high-level poster and, despite the difficulties, we have had few casualties. ”

Due to the situation created by Covid-19, the organization of the Jai Alai World Tour will announce all the details of each event on the portal of each competition. In the case of the Markina-Xemein Masters, on Friday, in the first final, Beaskoetxea-Lekerika and Erkiaga-Aldazabal will face off (Barandika-Ibarluzea and Goixerri-Manzi will compete in the preliminaries). The second final will take place on the 16th: against Goikoetxea-Etcheto Lopez and Ormaetxea.
