Ashleigh Barty will not play in the US Open

“My team and I have decided that we will not travel to the United States for the West and the Southern Open and the US Open this year,” Barty said in a statement. “I love both events, so it was a difficult decision but there are still significant risks due to Covid 19 and I don’t feel comfortable putting my team and I in that position. I wish USTA all the best for tournaments and I look forward to returning to the United States next year.

“I will make my decision on the French Open and the European WTA tournaments in the coming weeks.”

The main draw of the US Open is scheduled for August 31st.

The Western & Southern Open, which is normally held in Mason, Ohio, a suburb of Cincinnati, will be held at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York this year, with the main draw starting August 22nd.

Five players in the top 10 in the individual WTA rankings are not in the Western & Southern Open field. Those that don’t play include Barty, issue no. 2 Simona Halep, the no. 6 Bianca Andreescu and n. 10 Naomi Osaka.
To direct this year the women’s single from the Western & Southern Open will be n. 3 Karolina Pliskova, the no. 4 Sofia Kenin and n. 9 Serena Williams. In the single male draw, the number 1 in the world Novak Djokovic and the number 2 Rafael Nadal are listed as competitors.
