Anthony Delisanti, 17, becomes Buffalo District’s youngest golf champion | Sports

Delisanti showed grit beyond his years by becoming champion of the Western New York golfer year. He and Hanes entered the final round in a draw for the lead, with Fredo being rejected.

With eight holes to go, all three were tied in 1-over.

On the 495 yard, par-5 11th, Delisanti hit a smooth 5-iron from 210 yards to 22 feet and putted for the eagle to take a two-shot lead.

He fell into balance with Hanes again on the 13th, when he pushed his drive to the right, in danger, and drove Hanes’ birdie crazy.

But Delisanti returned on par-3 14th, hitting a 180-yard 8-iron at 12 feet and putting for birdies and command.

Delisanti made a fantastic par-4 par on 15 par-4 after pulling his drive to the left, behind a large tree, 110 yards from the green. He struck a blow that never lifted more than 8 feet off the ground and ran to the front fringe, from where he saved the par.

“I knew I had a bad lie, it was quite buried,” said Delisanti. “I just took a 6 iron to run up to the fairway in front of the green, and I knew I could do it up and down.”

“It didn’t break,” said Fredo. “Especially when he turned 13 and hit one in danger, he drove him crazy. Come back and do birdies, this is the sign of a great, young, mentally acute player. “
