Andy Murray on Serena Williams against Roger Federer – EssentiallySports

Three-time Grand Slam champion Andy Murray is currently playing the Battle of the Brits Team Tennis in London. He played double mixed tennis with compatriot Jodie Burrage and the duo narrowly defeated Joe Salisbury and Emma Raducanu.

After his win, Murray spoke of the joy of playing mixed doubles. He reflected on the Hopman Cup, a mixed doubles tournament that took place in Perth, Australia every year. But unfortunately, 2019 was the highlight of the tournament and the ATP Cup replaced the event.

“I think sport lacks a bit of makeup with this stuff. The Hopman Cup, for example, was a brilliant event in my opinion. The players had fun. Sometimes it had a bit of an exhibition atmosphere in some of the matches, but that would have been my only criticism. ” Andy Murray said, as quoted by Metro.

Last year, Roger Federer and Serena Williams played against each other in Perth and represented their nations. Tickets for their game were sold out and around 15,000 fans watched the legendary players in action on the same field. That day, every moment on the pitch was priceless.

During that game, Serena was collaborating with her compatriot Frances Tiafoe, and Roger was paired with Belinda Bencic.

“I’ve played there a lot of times and loved it. it was a great event. Putting tennis match-ups like Serena Williams and Roger Federer on the same court is so brilliant for our sport. We can do it in tennis and I think we should embrace it a little more, not necessarily every single week but sometimes it would be great, ” Murray added.

On a personal level, Murry enjoyed the mixed doubles show organized by Serena and Roger. Andy also talked about watching Rafael Nadal’s game with and against another senior player.

“I would like to see Rafa on the field with some of the best players. When I saw Roger and Serena playing, it was fantastic. They were involved and I’m sure they liked it too ” He said.

During the ATP Tour, Murray did not play any games in 2020, but is currently considering flying to New York for the US Open.
