All Aizkolaris Euskadi championships suspended

The board of directors of the Basque Federation of Basque Games and Sports has unanimously decided suspend the dispute of the Aizkora 2020 Basque Country Championships in the three categories, first, second and third. He uses “sanitary and economic reasons”, as he issued in a note.

The federation provides three fundamental reasons. The first is “the economic uncertainty in town halls and the suspension of their parties ». The second refers “to the impossibility of organizing them without external financial aid (municipalities and others) or without sufficient box office income ». The third, and most important according to the federative entity, alludes «to the health insecurity of unpredictable and changing evolution caused by the Covid-19 pandemic ».

All this makes it impossible to guarantee the normal organization of the eight tests that the championships entail, with the consequent “damage that would entail, on the one hand, for promotions and descents between categories and, on the other, the unaffordable economic damage due to the contracted wood” ensures the Basque board of directors.

The eight tests were divided into three categories, first, second and third, with the corresponding qualifying rounds in each of them.

So, this year there will be no champion of the Basque Country of aizkolaris. Iker Vicente will not be able to revalidate the title harvested last year in Vitoria-Gasteiz, nor Aitzol Atutxa will lack the possibility of recovering a txapela won in the five previous editions. For now we will have to settle for the individual Urrezko Aizkolariak.
