Alex Grinch adds another one to #SpeedD in Norman

For the Oklahoma Defense Coordinator Alex GrinchIt’s all about speed. The #SpeedD became the nickname for all OU fans they got used to in 2019.

They want speed, they don’t get much faster than Caleb Johnson, the cornerback of Greenville, Texas. The three-star prospectus confirmed SoonerScoop.com on Thursday evening that it had chosen the OU class 2021.

The Greenville Herald banner first reported Johnson’s commitment.

Johnson may have been a little under the radar until May, when his recruitment began. OU included schools such as LSU and Florida. The more schools became aware of his speed, the more offers came to him.

Johnson was clocked at 4.39 seconds by his trainers in the 40-yard dash and ran 10.58 seconds on the 100 meters.

The addition of Johnson is another sign that the secondary level for class 2021 is coming together. OU started the month with only one commitment in Jordan Mukes from Choctaw (Okla.) High. Now the Sooners are up to three when Johnson and Latrell McCutchin from Austin, Texas, Johnson make the July move.

Johnson had 30 receptions for 429 yards and six touchdowns last season, but it was clear that the Sooners see him as someone who can excel on the other side of the ball.

The numbers for July and August are quite large for OU on the recruitment path, and Johnson is another sign that the Sooners are making their move.
