Three players the Packers should have signed again.

Managing the salary cap is not an easy task. It is also difficult to determine when is the right time to switch players and replace them with young talent. For the most part, the Green Bay Packers have done a good job deciding when to give players new long-term contracts and when the time is right to move on. But no general manager is perfect.

Packers Managing Director Brian Gutekunst made some big decisions during his short tenure. The signing of the Smith Bros. turned out to be an all time great free agency decision. Trading for Jaire Alexander also sounds like a smart move, as does the draft of Darnell Savage and Elgton Jenkins.

Gutekunst made mistakes, however. Signing Jimmy Graham didn’t work. Re-signing Dean Lowry appears to be an overpayment. Signing Billy Turner could also have been a mistake after a first season with the Packers.

In a few years, Gutekunst could also reverse some decisions he made with the Packers’ own free agents he regrets. And that is the subject of this article.

Gutekunst has made some great decisions as GM, but here’s a look at three players he shouldn’t have given up in free agency over the past two years.
