2020 Principal Charity Classic canceled
The main charity classic will not be held in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic. The PGA Tour Champions and the classic main charity announced the cancellation Thursday. The event was pushed from June to September before the organizers decided to cancel the event. While the event is not taking place, organizers have said that the tournament still remains on track to raise millions of dollars for Iowa children’s charities. Principal sponsor Principal Financial Group, together with the presentation of sponsor Wells Fargo and other sponsors have promised their continued philanthropic support for the tournament, according to the tournament organizers. “The main Charity Classic is to give back to the children of Iowa, and today this cause is more important than ever,” said Dan Houston, Principal president, president and CEO. “I want to thank everyone who has shown support for this tournament in the past 12 years. Although world-class golf will have to wait until 2021, I hope you will join us now to act to support our charity partners in 2020. As a sponsor of the title, we will honor our commitment to children’s charities in the Iowa and I hope you will join us to help make this year’s Principal Charity Classic beneficial for our community. The organizers said that tickets purchased for the Principal Charity Classic 2020 will be honored at the 2021 tournament. Ticket holders can also choose to donate the value of their ticket to charity or request a refund on the Principal Charity Classic website. Next year’s Principal Charity Classic is scheduled for June 1-6, 2021 at the Wakonda Club.
