What Angel Gomes said about Jose Mourinho as Man United midfielder in connection with the Chelsea transfer

According to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Angel Gomes will likely leave Manchester United after he has not agreed to renew the contract.

The youthful midfielder’s contract in Old Trafford expires on Tuesday and Solskjaer has admitted that the 19-year-old will almost certainly leave.

Solskjaer asked for an update on Gomes’ future and said: “To be honest I didn’t hear from them last night or this morning.

“So it seems like they didn’t manage to come to an agreement, so the answer right now is probably short and ‘yes’.

“I have no news, so it doesn’t look like it [that he will sign a new deal]. ”

Gomes is considered to be one of the most promising talents emerging from the United Academy in recent years, and its availability of free transfers has reportedly alarmed Chelsea.

London rival Tottenham may not be in the running for Gomes’ signature, but the midfielder has previously celebrated Spurs boss Jose Mourinho, under whom he worked at United during the Portuguese period.

Gomes made his first team debut for United under Mourinho in the final game of Portugal’s first season at Old Trafford.

Mourinho saved the players for the Europa League final and used a largely rotated squad to clash against Crystal Palace. The 16-year-old Gomes was one of those involved when he replaced Wayne Rooney.

After Mourinho was released in December 2018, Gomes used social media to pay tribute to his former manager.

He posted a tweet with the headline: “You allowed me to make my debut at 16 and play before the end of Stretford, which I will never forget. Thank you, boss. ‘
