Influenced by the Covid-19 virus, the Monster Energy International Automobile Federation (FIA) World Rallycross Championship has been forced to make several changes to the season this year – the dates, sequence and venues of the stages have been changed. The changes that have just been announced envisage that the competition “Neste World RX of Riga” planned for September 19-20 at Biķernieki track will host not one, but two “World RX” stages in one weekend.

“2020 has brought many challenges that have required bold and responsible solutions. Both the championship organizer, stage organizers and athletes are interested in a full-fledged World RX season, so we have the opportunity to hold two World Championship stages in one weekend – that is twice as many test rides, twice as much live TV time and significantly more fan attention around the world, “says the competition organizer Raimonds Strokšs.

“It is currently known that the fifth stage of the season will take place on Saturday of the race week, and on Sunday – the sixth stage. These are significant changes, followed by active work on precise daily plans. One stage of FIA European Rallycross Championship in Supercar class and one” Projekt E “Cup stage for electric cars, but due to these changes, the FIA ​​European Rallycross Championship stage for front-wheel drive Super1600 cars will not take place on Biķernieki track this year.”

The organizers of “Neste World RX of Riga” inform that the date of the event remains unchanged – the competition is scheduled for September 19-20, but due to the restrictions on the spread of the “Covid-19” virus in the country and the rules of gathering, ticketing for the event has been temporarily suspended. trade.

“At the moment, the rules that the organizers of sports competitions will have to follow in September have not been published. We do not know what the allowed number of visitors will be or what other restrictions, so we have suspended ticket sales until these requirements are known. We will follow the current restrictions in the country and work with to the responsible authorities in order to develop the exact course of the event and find a way to organize the flow of teams and fans on the Biķernieki track, which would ensure a safe race for everyone, “concludes Strokšs.

The stage of the FIA ​​World Rallycross Championship in Riga in 2020 can be organized thanks to the support provided by the Riga City Council, the title sponsor of the competition “Neste”, sponsor “Pafbet”, as well as the partner Road Traffic Safety Directorate (CSDD).

The first championship competition is scheduled for August 20-23 in Sweden. At this stage, all rallycross car classes will go on the track, including the new “Projekt E” or electric car class.

The next stages will be in Riga (September 18-20), Belgium (October 2-4), Portugal (October 9-11), Spain (October 16-18), Abu Dhabi (October 29-18). October 31), but the end of the season is expected in Germany (December 11-13).

Abu Dhabi is scheduled to run two rallycross stages (October 30-31), but the end of the season is scheduled for December 12 and 13 in Germany at the Nürburgring.
