The National Women’s Soccer League allows players to stay in the locker room for the national anthem

The National Women’s Soccer League announced on Monday that it will give players the opportunity to stay in their locker room during the national anthem during the remainder of the NWSL Challenge Cup 2020. “The NWSL stands behind every player, official and employee. Knees on the field. Stand with your hand over your heart. Honor your feelings in the privacy of the locker room or in the midfield, ”the league wrote in a statement. The announcement comes two days after players from the Portland Thorns, North Carolina Courage, Chicago Red Stars and Washington Spirit kneeled for the national anthem in support of the protests against Black Lives Matter during their Saturday games. The players also wore Black Lives Matter jerseys before the games started.
