The most bizarre suicide goal in the history of Polish Ekstraklasa

Goalkeeper Janusz Jojko threw the ball into the goal and Ruch Chorzów for the first time was relegated from the highest level of competition. Strange suicide took place 33 years ago.

It was hot June 1987. In the country, the third apostolic journey of John Paul II to his homeland continued. A great spiritual experience, but not everyone had time to listen carefully to the teachings of the Holy Father. The league was entering a decisive phase, there were fewer trainings, but the phones warmed up – “I will buy – I will exchange – I will sell – I will marry”. Until now, points have been outraged mainly by the media. A few years earlier the wajcha was so clear that “Przegląd Sportowy” from one of the lines gave a white stain instead of a relation.

Then apparently the holy spirit flowed to the Polish Football Association because instead of sitting with arms folded they decided to punish evil offenses. Shortly after the pope left his native land, on June 16, the Games Department ordered a replay of Górnik Wałbrzych’s match with the outsider, Motor Lublin (on the pitch was 4-0). Meetings were canceled: Lech Poznan with Polonia Bytom (1-1), Olimpia Poznań with Stal Mielec (1-3) and Zagłębie Lubin with Ruch Chorzów (0-2). Their participants were taken points and goals scored in it. It was an action calculated for cheap applause, because the situation in the table did not change, and there were many more strange matches.

The crowned champion Górnik Zabrze lost at home 1-2 with Motor, who in the whole competition for 30 games, lost eight times minus one point (such a penalty was used for the defeat by three or more goals). It is known that in at least one other match the team that paid was “broken” during the break and eventually left empty-handed. The cash register was not always moving, sometimes a favor for a favor. Sometimes there was no kindergarten and someone uninitiated would break out of the system and score a goal. There was no congratulation.

After the 1985/86 season a discussion took place in the well-deserved journal, here’s an excerpt:

“PS”: An invited Hungarian referee during a GKS – Motor match runs around the field and screams: “Bunda, bunda!”, I think that means something …

Andrzej Czyżniewski, goalkeeper of the degraded Baltic Gdynia: – Sure, he is an outsider! The Katowice team scored 4-3 in the 87th minute and caught the referee’s hand so he would not score!

“PS”: The referee recognized the goal, but Motor managed to equalize in the last minute.

Czyżniewski: In this system, the referee was powerless, helpless!

On the charts, Madonna reigned with the hit “La Isla Bonita”, which young people at parties (at that time drinking and having fun) turned to “Władysław Bandyta”. Bandit times.
