The fourth ring of the Euro Nascar will have to wait until 2021

The Gipuzkoan pilot Ander Vilariño will not compete for the fourth ring of the Euro Nascar champion in this 2020. After the publication of the new competition calendar in which in just three months 12 or 13 races would be held in 6 or 7 events, the three-time champion of the contest has requested his team, the DF1 Racing, to dispense with him for this campaign in order not to neglect his business and his family.

Vilariño, yes, has reached an agreement with the Austrian team to extend his contract and be able to compete in the next season with the same car. The agreement reached by the pilot and team does not imply that the Gipuzkoan will not drive in the rest of the year. In fact, from DF1 Racing they report that if Vilariño wants to participate in races, without ties and that they do not take so long, he will consider it. “The pilot does not want to be tied to the obligation to make a complete championship in the current global situation with the travel requirement that the Euro Nascar requires,” they clarify from the automotive training.

Ander Vilariño was “very grateful to the team for their understanding.” “When I called them, I thought they wouldn’t want to know anything else about me, but that they want to count on me by 2021, I’m proud of it,” he acknowledged. Vilariño has justified his resignation in that «such a calendar is not feasible for me. With the Covid-19 everything has had to be concentrated in three months and for me it is not viable. In addition to not wanting to travel by plane, I have a family and a business to attend to. ”

The man from Gipuzkoa believes that “if I were to run in these conditions I would not be 100% focused and mentally it would be very unpleasant. If I have races that take 2-3 days and I can go by car, I will consider it.». Finally, Vilariño wished that his team had “a free place for the December race in Valencia”, since he considered it his “favorite circuit”.

DF1 Racing Director Norbert Walchhofer has stated that «we will miss Ander as a person and of course as our spear sword in the championship. But life comes first and we understand its position. Walchhofer also hopes to see him “in a test that is not far from his country or even that he runs the last two races of the season in Valencia.”
