A new member of the Arizona Cardinals was having trouble with the law this weekend when one of their non-drafted free agents reportedly drove his car into Lake Erie while drunk. According to the WFMJ, former Youngstown State recipient Jeremiah Braswell was arrested for operating a drunk vehicle after a breath test showed that his blood alcohol level was above the legal limit.

According to a press release, the Put-in-Bay police responded to a call at around 6:30 p.m. on Saturday about a car driving into Lake Erie. Police say an orange Camaro was from the embankment and in the water upon arrival, and no bystanders were injured in the incident. Witnesses also told officials that the driver was still in the car and tried to drive it while it was in the water. When officials approached Braswell, he reportedly told the officers that he was stuck and didn’t know what had happened.

The police said Braswell’s speech was blurry and he could not explain how his vehicle landed in the water. He then underwent field sobriety tests and was arrested. Braswell played wide receiver for Youngstown State between 2015 and 2019. According to Youngstown State’s official website, Braswell recorded 51 receptions for 986 yards and 11 touchdowns in 40 career games. He ended his college career positively when he achieved 24 passes for 515 yards and seven touchdowns.

After not being drafted that off-season, Braswell posted on Twitter that he had signed with the Cardinals organization. According to 12News, Braswell’s claim to fame is that in his senior year he helped Central Catholic High School win a championship in the State of Ohio and chose future No. 1 overall winner Joe Burrow during the game.
