The Six Again Rule has been adjusted to prevent markers from seeking an unfair advantage as the NRL tries to stay one step ahead of coaches and players trying to manipulate the new interpretations.
The Australian Rugby League Commission approved a change that will result in referees restarting the number of duels instead of imposing a regular penalty if the markers are not square or break at the start of the ball game. The rule could previously only be applied to violations that were committed in a jerk and was introduced for Round 3, the first weekend after the NRL’s COVID 19 shutdown.

The change will be made after the ARLC has determined that the new rules have effectively increased jerk speed, although teams are trying to use markers to gain an unfair advantage.
The referees reserve the right to impose a full sentence and to throw players into sin for continuing violations of the jerk and professional fouls.
