The AFCON announcement is fantastic news for Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham

The African Nations Cup 2021 has been officially postponed.

After a meeting on Tuesday afternoon, the African football association confirmed that the tournament would be postponed to January 2022.

This gives the clubs a boost, which expected to lose players to the tournament in the middle of next season.

The competition was originally scheduled to take place in Cameroon in June and July 2021. CAF has postponed its continental tournament until summer to avoid having to leave mid-season clubs to take part.

In January of this year, however, it was postponed to January and February 2021 in June and July due to the unfavorable climatic conditions in Cameroon.

After UEFA postponed Euro 2020 to next year and Copa America is now scheduled to take place in 2021, CAF has decided to postpone its tournament by 12 months.

The corona virus has meant that a calendar for the next season has yet to be completed. The African Cup of Nations has therefore been postponed to avoid further disruption.

While clubs will still have to lose players during part of the 2021/22 season, they now have more time to plan this prospect.

Since club spending is likely to be hit hard by the corona virus, any club wishing to replace players for the African Nations Cup would have continued to stretch out on the transfer market.

For Arsenal, this means that Nicolas Pepe and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang – if they are still in the club – will be available for the entire next season

Chelsea will have Hakim Ziyech available for the entire season after moving from Ajax.

Serge Aurier will be available for the entire Tottenham Hotspur campaign.
