Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says that “it doesn’t seem” the talented young Angel Gomes will be staying in Man Utd.

The highly regarded 19-year-old arrived at the Old Trafford’s Giants Academy and made his debut at the age of 16 in May 2017, becoming the youngest player since Duncan Edwards appeared for the first team.

But Gomes he made only 10 first-team appearances and contract negotiations reached a checkpoint, with Solskjaer now expecting the Man Utd midfielder to leave when his contract expires on Tuesday.

Asked if the nineteen year old would stay at the club, the United chief said, “I have no news, nothing, so it doesn’t seem.”

Gomes was part of England’s U17 World Cup triumph in 2017 and 11 days ago Solskjaer said he hoped the teenager had signed a new deal, adding “let’s hope it’s not too far from what I understand.”

Driven to clarify whether Gomes would leave, Solskjaer added: “To be honest, I had no news from them last night or this morning, so it seems that they failed to agree (an agreement), so the answer is probably short and Yes then. “

Although far from being a normal first team player, Gomes’ departure is a serious blow for a club synonymous with promoting local talent.

Paul Pogba, Mason Greenwood and Scott McTominay are among the regular customers rooted in the youth structure together with Marcus Rashford.

Rashford is ready to make up for lost time due to a back injury in January, but hasn’t scored since the game has resumed amid the coronavirus pandemic.

“Obviously Marcus has been out for a while, but I think he looks sharp,” said Solskjaer Tuesday’s Premier League trip to Brighton.

“He has come and has seen a clear face again against Norwich, he has lost one or two chances against Sheffield United but the goals he has created are those we are focusing on.

“I think Marcus is getting to his best season ever at Man United, so for me, I can’t wait for more and more minutes to come. He will surely score a goal soon. “
