Sheffield Wednesday’s player ratings as Connor Wickham and Barry Bannan shine in victory in Bristol City

Sheffield Wednesday (5-3-2)

Joe Wildsmith

Produced a breathtaking and crucial parade to keep Baker’s header out early. Commanded his area with confidence and authority, but his kicking could have been better. 8th

Jacob Murphy

Whipped in a grand corner for Wickham’s goal. Admirably adjusted to the right back roll. Consistently kept up with his defense duties. 7

Liam Palmer

It looks like he played in a three-man defense for years. He made a number of major duels and clearings to smother Bristol’s top three, including a fabulous block to keep Wells out of the gate. 7

Dominic Iorfa

An absolute colossus on the back. Iorfa was strong in the air and on the deck and made hardly a mistake all afternoon. Always seemed to be in the right place at the right time. 8th

Julian Borner

Was jumped by Baker for the home team’s big chance in the early stages. The great German was dismissed at half-time with an injury. 6

Kadeem Harris

Offered as a threat after the break, just before Luongo’s second shot a shot with the right foot just missed the goal. A hard working display. 7

Kieran Lee

He covered a lot of ground and gave the team a lot of energy with and without a ball. Was yellow-carded after a professional foul on Callum O’Dowda. 7

Barry Bannan

The show ran in the middle. He kept things simple and made Wednesday tick. He used all of his class and experience to help the owls return to winning ways. 8th

Massimo Luongo

Was pushed a little further forward in the second period. Scored his third goal of the season after the Robins failed to make a corner on Wednesday. A key tooth in the midfield of the owls. 7

Connor Wickham

He scored his second goal in as many games and outsmarted the central defense to reach Murphy’s precise corner behind Maenpaa. Missed an opportunity with Goldrand to set up three on Wednesday as he rubbed far off. 8th

Jordan Rhodes

The striker lives from high-quality service, but had to feed mostly on waste. Also picked up a cheap, unnecessary booking. Could do desperately with the goal of building confidence. 6

Replacement:

Morgan Fox (HT), 7 – The defender was hired for the injured Borner during the break. Integrated into the three-man defense with minimal effort.

Alessio Da Cruz (61), 7 – Caused some problems with the Bristol defense’s speed. Was a willing runner and at times well connected to the midfield.

Moses Odubajo (75) N / A

Joey Pelupessy (76) N / A

Atdhe Nuhiu (82) N / A

Unused: Tom Lees, Cameron Dawson, Alex Hunt, Adam Reach.
